The Prints & Photographs Division of the Library of Congress holds some 17 million images – prints, photographs, posters, architectural drawings, cartoons, and more – that document the lives, interests, and achievements of the American people. This collection is open to all, and the Prints & Photographs Reading Room is staffed by a former Riversider, Leigh Gleason. Join Leigh on Zoom as she shares pictures of the photographs, architectural drawings, and other visual materials relating to Riverside that are housed in the Library of Congress Prints & Photographs Division. Leigh will show examples of great Riverside images in the collection and talk about how you can see these images for yourself, online or on Capitol Hill.

Since 2023, Leigh Gleason has been the Head of the Reference Section for the Prints & Photographs Division of the Library of Congress. Prior to moving east, she spent seventeen years in Riverside, where she worked at UCR’s California Museum of Photography as the Director of Collections, and immersed herself in the visual history of the area. Leigh has given presentations at RHS on the Riverside photographs in the California Museum of Photography’s collection and on early photographs of Riverside, and has been published in the RHS Journal on Riverside’s earliest photographers and the CMP’s   Leigh holds a PhD in visual history, an MA in art history, a master’s in library and information science, and a BA in photography. Leigh now lives in Fairfax, Virginia, with her husband Jim and kids, Max and Lenora.
